History of the 88 mm PaK43 anti-tank gun
1403 examples of this anti-tank gun were produced by Krupp between 1943 and 1944. This configuration enabled the formidable PaK 43 to be deployed at low cost, on a single-axle carriage. The total weight of the unit was just 4380 kg. Correctly used, the weapon's rate of fire reached 20 to 25 rounds/min. The best-performing shells fired were Pz.Gr. 40/43 (tungsten core) with a high muzzle velocity of 1130 m/s. These projectiles perforated 205 mm of steel at 1000 m.
The PaK 43/41 represented the emergency solution for using the Pak 43 88 mm anti-tank, with the disadvantage of a gun that was cumbersome and difficult to maneuver due to its low-cost mount. Nevertheless, the PaK 43/41 remained an extremely effective weapon.
