GAS48603 Panzer Luchs (5 cm) VK 13.03
MAN avait remporté l'appel
MAN won the tender for the "Luchs"
(Lynx) 5 cm, the final variant of the PzKpfw II. The 180 hp HL 66 P, 6 cylinders,
gasoline motor from Maybach would have powered this 13 tonnes vehicle. A required
range of 250 km and a top speed of 60 km/h were feasible.
The crew of four would at best have been protected by 30 mm of armour plates.
The Daimler-Benz designed turret housed one KwK 39/1 L/60 5 cm (v0: 835 m/s)
with 55 shells. One coaxial MG 34 7.92 mm machine-gun with 2,250 cartridges
supplemented the cannon.
The production start was scheduled for April 1943. In February 1943 the decision
was made to cancel the whole project due to budgetary restrictions, although
it had a real tactical value. Eventually late 1943, the Daimler-Benz turret
ended up fitted onto the Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma.
