History of the self-propelled gun Grille Ausf.H Sd.Kfz.138/1
From February to April 1943, 90 "15 cm Schweres Infanteriegeschütz 33 (Sf) auf PzKpfw. 38 (t) Ausf H" were produced by BMM. The Praga EPA/2 six-cylinder 140 hp engine propelled the 11.5-ton vehicle at 35 km/h. Range was 185 km.
The four-man crew sat in the open-air combat compartment with 15 shells for the Rheinmetall 150 mm cannon, developed in 1933, which fired a 38 kg shell up to 4650 m away, at a muzzle velocity of 240 m/s. The machine was defended by a single Rheinmetall MG 34 7.92 mm mobile machine gun.
So effective was this weapon system that later, improved versions were developed to carry out ever more difficult missions for the German armies.
