GAS48017 Sherman M4A3E2 Jumbo

Avec plus de 49000 unités, le Sherman fut de loin le char le plus produit de la deuxième guerre mondiale. 254 M4A3E2 de 38,1 tonnes sortirent de l'usine " Fisher Tank Arsenal " de juin à août 1944. Un moteur Ford GAA V-8 de 500 cv permettait une vitesse de 35 km/h.
Les cinq tankistes étaient efficacement protégés par un supplément de 6,3 tonnes d'acier par rapport à un Sherman standard. L'armement principal : un canon M3 de 75 mm doté de 104 obus était complété par trois mitrailleuses : deux (coaxiale et coque) Browning M1919A4de 7,62 mm avec 6250 coups et une (AA) Browning M2 de 12,7 mm (600 cartouches).
Au combat en Europe, ce char permit un soutien efficace à l'infanterie ainsi que l'escorte de colonnes blindées. En effet, son blindage suffisamment épais permettait de parer à l'urgence.

Over 49,000 units of the M4 Sherman have been built making it the most produced tank of WWII. 254 M4A3E2 rolled out the "Fisher Tank Arsenal" factory between June and August 1944. The 500 hp Ford GAA V-8 motor granted this 38.1 tonnes tank a speed of 35 km/h.
6.3 tonnes of extra steel provided the crew of five an efficient shielding when compared with a standard Sherman. The main weapon: an M3 75 mm cannon with 104 shells was supplemented by three machine guns: two (hull and coaxial) cal. .30 Browning M1914A4 (6,250 cartridges) and one (AA) cal. .50 Browning M2 (600 rounds).
When under fire, this tank offered an efficient close-support to the infantry and the escort of armoured columns thanks to its sufficiently thick armour that allowed coping with urgencies.
