History of the Canon 105 mm LG-1 Mk.II
The LG1 howitzer is a 105 mm towed artillery piece put into service from 1992 and whose main characteristics are its low weight and its high precision at long distances. Its lightweight construction gives the barrel a relatively short lifespan.
The estimated number of shots before changing the barrel is around 7500 in theory; however, in practice, the threshold is rather around 1500.
The gun was specifically designed for use by rapid deployment forces with the consequence of prioritizing rusticity, ease of use and weight.
It can fire all standard 105mm NATO ammunition, for a range of up to 18.5km to 19.5km with HE-ER G2 and US M913 rounds.
