History of the AMR-35 ZT 1 reconnaissance armored car
30 Automitrailleuses de Reconnaissance 35 ZT 2 were delivered by Renault from 1934 to 1936. This 6.5 ton vehicle was powered at 60 km/h by a Renault 4 cyl engine, 82 hp. Thanks to the 130 liters of gasoline, 200 km could be covered at best.
The two crewmen were protected by at most 13 mm of steel. The ZT 1 model was equipped with a single-seat turret housing a 13.2 mm machine gun with 1220 rounds of ammunition. These AMRs demonstrated their excellent general qualities during the brief French campaign which ended on Saturday June 22, 1940. Subsequently, the remaining vehicles were returned to service for the German armed forces.
