History of the German light tank Pz.I Ausf.F
From April to December 1942, Krauss-Maffei AG in Munich delivered 30 PzKpfw I Ausf. F. This 21-ton vehicle was powered by a 150 hp Maybach HL45P gasoline engine. The maximum speed fell to 25 km/h and the range to 150 km, due to the increase in mass. The two tankers were at best protected by 80 mm of steel. Two 7.92 mm Rheinmetall MG 34 machine guns with 2250 rounds were mounted in the turret. This ultimate version of the Pz. I, because heavier received new, wider tracks.
Intended for infantry support, this last representative of the Panzer I line was deployed in May 1942 in the vicinity of Leningrad with the 12th Armored Division. The Pz. I F was probably the best of the Pz. I, however, by the end of 1944, not a single one was operational.
