History of the GMC AFKWX 353 COE box cabin
This cabin forward (COE) model is derived directly from the civilian model. It then took the designation GMC AFKWX-353, 2.5 tons, 6x6, model G-508. it was produced from 1942. The first examples were equipped with a sheet-metal cabin and a 15-foot metal body.
It was subsequently produced with a torpedo cabin and fitted with a wooden body. From 1944, it received a platform/drop sides extended to 17 feet and took the designation M-427. More than 7,232 vehicles were produced between 1942 and 1945, including 5,000 examples of the M-427 model. It is powered by the excellent 6-cylinder GMC model 270 engine identical to the classic GMC CCKW. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox and equipped with a two-speed transfer case.
