Historique du char M3A3 Stuart V

3,423 M3A3 light tanks weighing 14.7 tons were manufactured from September 1942 to September 1943 by the American Car and Foundry Company. The Continental W-670-9A gasoline engine developed 262 hp and allowed a speed of 50 km/h, the range was 217 km.

The four tankers were best protected by 51 mm of armor. The main armament, the 37 mm M6 cannon stocked with 174 shells, was supplemented by three 7.62 mm M1919A4 Browning machine guns (AA, coaxial and hull) equipped with a total of 7,500 cartridges.

The M3A3 was nicknamed "Stuart" (General Stuart) and more familiarly "Honey" by British troops. This vehicle enjoyed real success in the service of the Allied armies in its role as a cavalry tank and would only be supplanted by the M-24 Chaffee in 1945.
