History of the Renault D2 medium tank
Successor to the D1 tank, the D2 tank is expected to replace the B1 bis tanks in the event that the latter are banned by the international conference on disarmament. The first 50 units joined the 507th RCC in 1937 and formed one of the most modern regiments in the French army.
The tanks, a rare occurrence for the time, were all equipped with radios.
The regiment is under the orders of an illustrious commander in the person of Colonel De Gaulle who will make it a unit with great esprit de corps. A second tranche of 50 tanks will be launched just before the start of hostilities.
Thrown into the battle of May/June 40 with either worn out tanks or new but incomplete tanks, the crews participated in the major engagements of this terrible campaign, with courage and determination.
