History of the anti-aircraft semi-trailerSchwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper
250 of the 825 "Schwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper" produced by Büssing-NAG and Ringhoffer-Tatra between December 1943 and March 1945 were fitted with armored cabs (max. 16 mm). The 13.5-ton machine was powered by a Maybach HL42 TRKMS 4.2-liter 6-cylinder petrol engine, giving 100 hp. Performance was 28 km/h and a range of 300 km.
The crew was equipped with the FlaK 43/1 L/89 gas-operated gun manufactured by Rheinmetall-Borsig. 37 mm shells, weighing 685 g, were fired at a rate of 150 to 180 rounds/min, with a muzzle velocity of 820 m/s and an effective range of 4200 meters.
Circumstances dictated that German decision-makers opt for simpler, faster-to-produce equipment, and this sWS AA illustrates this end-of-empire constraint.
