History of the E-100 super heavy tank

This new tank was just one element in an innovative concept by the military authorities of the Third Reich, aimed at rationalizing production and materials: the E series (for development). The same model was used for tanks of 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 tons. The Entwicklung-typen experiment came to an end on May 8, 1945.

The body of the standard 100-ton model resembled that of the Tiger II, but was 8.7 m long and 4.48 m wide. An 800 hp, 12-cylinder Maybach engine would have driven 1 m-wide tracks. A crew of 5 to 6 men was envisaged, protected by armor ranging from 40 mm to a maximum of 240 mm. The turret chosen was that of the Maus super-heavy tank.

Several weapon combinations were envisaged, the first of which was a KwK44 1/55 128 mm gun and a co-axial KwK 44 L/36 75 mm gun, plus the indispensable MG 42 7.92 mm guns. In 1945, during the Allied advance into Germany, American troops discovered the only complete E-100 hull in existence at the Henschel factory in Paderborn.
