History of the Japanese type 2593 self-propelled gun

Around a thousand of these vehicles were assembled. Unit production of the Type 93 began in 1930. This self-propelled machine could run on both road and rail, and its configuration could be changed in just ten minutes thanks to specially designed lifting cylinders.

A 4-cylinder, 40 hp petrol engine drove the 7500 kg Sumida at 40 km/h on road and 60 km/h on rail. The maximum thickness of the steel sheet was 16 mm. The six-man crew was equipped with a 7.7 mm machine gun in the turret, and six side loopholes for the use of individual weapons.
This Nipponese vehicle was used mainly in China, and particularly in Manchuria from September 9, 1931, for surveillance and protection of land communications routes in occupied territories. The Type 93 ceased operational service in August 1945.
