History of the Tamiya-based Jagdpanzer IV L/70 (V) Vomag

Designed to replace the aging StuG.III, Vomag produced just over 930 of these tank fighters in 1944 and 1945.
To simplify the design and production of this vehicle, a tried-and-tested model was chosen: the Panzer IV. The body, suspension and running gear are identical between the two tanks. Vomag redesigned a bevelled front end with 80 mm thick steel plates and a compact superstructure. As a result, the overall height of this new armored fighting vehicle did not exceed 1.85 m.
The main armament: the 75 mm L/70 long-barrel anti-tank gun was equipped with 55 shells, while the MG 42 machine gun was supplied with 600 rounds of 7.92 mm ammunition. In December 1944, during the Ardennes offensive, they were admitted to the tank hunter units of the Third Reich's armored divisions.
