History of the Tamiya-based Bren WASP Mk.II flamethrower

Over 100,000 Universal Carrier Mk. IIs were produced from the end of 1942 onwards by a number of British carmakers, with many also built in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Agile and fast (50 km/h), this vehicle was powered by an 85 hp Ford V8 engine, with 90 l. of petrol giving a range of 200 km.
Two men sat aboard the Wasp Mark II, protected by 12 mm of steel at best. The flame thrower designed by R. P. Fraser had a maximum effective range of 90 m. Two tanks of gel fuel and the necessary equipment were installed on either side of the engine, in the rear seat.
This flame-throwing vehicle was used successfully in Italy and in the fighting in North-West Europe from August 1944. Each infantry battalion was equipped with 6 Wasps.
