History of the radio tank / command Panzerbefehlswagen I Ausf. B
Between 1935 and 1937, Daimler-Benz and Krupp completed 184 Pz tank conversions. I in a command tank. A 100 hp Maybach NL38TR gasoline engine took this 5.9 ton vehicle to 40 km/h, the range was 170 km with 145 liters of fuel.
The three tankers were protected at most by 14.5 mm of steel. Armament was limited to a Rheinmetall MG-13 machine gun first, then MG-34 7.92 mm with 900 cartridges. The casemate mainly housed two FuG 2 and 6 radio stations for transmissions.
The commissioning of this radio vehicle took place during the Spanish Civil War, then its deployment was massive from September 1, 1939 during the invasion of Poland. 1942 will see this machine withdrawn from the front lines, new equipment becoming available.
