History of Crusader III British

The Crusader was the ultimate evolution of the Covenanter tank. The Crusader's general design was based on that of its ancestor, with a larger hull and different armament. Under the management of Nuffield Mechanisation, 5500 Crusaders were produced up to 1943. The main quality of this tank was its Christie running gear, a feature much appreciated by crews.

What's more, once the 340 hp Liberty engine was unbridled, the Crusader reached speeds of over 60 km/h, an advantage in desert warfare. However, the Crusader was outclassed by its German rivals due to a number of mechanical shortcomings, overly light armor and a 2-pound gun. The Crusader Mk II was armed with a 2-pounder cannon and two 7.92 mm Besa machine guns, and was crewed by 4 men.

Not yet fully developed for its first combat in Egypt in June 1941, more Crusaders were taken by the enemy due to mechanical problems than to combat.
